Pretty please

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

I’d flutter my eyelashes at you all but since one eye is hideously swollen (those damn mozzies still) I think the result would be too grotesque, even for a Saturday night.

But would you mind awfully linking to this post so that I can get a vote in the truth laid bare showcase? It has to be this post apparently so that those nice spidery things wot searches the net can list any links to that particular post and register it as a vote. Now that was as clear as mustard wasn’t it?

And you might think about linking to this post from electric venom because it’s such a good site and has a really good chance of winning. Unlike yours truly who is languishing at number 46 without a single vote. Harrumph.

Stop the waffle

What I really logged on to say was that one of our best friends has had a bad motorbike crash.

Early this morning he was driving to meet some friends at Ditchling Beacon (to watch the sunrise) but somewhere along the M25 motorway the front tyre exploded, the bike went into the barrier and Roy was thrown off. Fractured femur, broken fingers, problems with the collarbone and goodness knows what else. Complicated by the fact that he already has two artificial hips. Sigh. I can’t begin to imagine how much pain he must be in. They operated on him this afternoon so hopefully he’ll be fast asleep by now.
Get well soon honey.

Must go and read this excellent article on the Websafe Color Palette.

I didn’t get any time today to fix things and start learning css/photoshop but I did surf a little and found Adam Kalsey’s button maker and mandarin design which is another incredible resource for all things bloggy. The dotted line box in the post below came straight from mandarin – I didn’t have the cojones to change the colour to something better suited to the pistachio green but I will. Now I’ve managed to take all the colour away (I thought it would be cream). Need to swot up on this.

I also tried to make a license plate but again couldn’t get it to work. I’m blaming IE6 rather than my own ineptitude. ‘Course if some kind person wanted to make me a Qu├ębec 1963 plate saying “Daisy” I’d be eternally grateful and buy them a virtual pint…

“What blogs are”

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

Blogs are instant publishing. You write, you cut-and-paste images, you cut-and-paste links, you customize everything through a WYSIWIG interface, and with one click you publish.
There is no Webmaster. There is no gatekeeper (necessarily). There’s just you, your PC, your Internet connection, and a form.

Go read a concise, excellent definition of blogging by Dana Blankenhorn.
