The phone calls have started…
I wrote a huge batch of Christmas cards late Sunday night, got them in the post on Monday morning. Felt very smug. Okay, so those to Belgium, France and the US might not actually get there on time but still. And then on Tuesday evening stepson #1 rang.
Tom: Did you send us a Christmas card?
Me: Yes of course. Why do you ask?
Tom: We got a blank card in the post and I recognised your handwriting on the envelope.
Me: Blank? What sort of blank?
Tom: It’s a small white card with a black and white photo of two children ice skating… but there’s nothing written inside. Did you send it?
Me: Um…
Later that same evening
Great aunt Gertie: ‘Ere, have you been sending strange Christmas cards?
Me: Oh I’m sorry, Aunt Ger-
G.a.G.: You ‘ad me worried sick, you ought to be more careful sending stuff like that to old folks.
Me: I’m sorry, it-
G.a.G.: Well, just so as you know.
*G.a.G. hangs up*
Sigh. I really need a holiday.

I wanna see ROTK…:(
Staying on topic, Your G.A.G reminds me of my granny…she would be like that too..heh
December 19th, 2003 17:51
Oh! So THAT’s who that lovely greeting was from. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO much!!! (wink wink)

Hello Shaide and welcome! I think I might take this opportunity to confess that *sharp intake of breath* I don’t really get the appeal of LOTR. There I’ve said it. Yes I know one of our dogs is called Frodo but that was his name when we adopted him. And I know that ‘im indoors has been LOTR mad since childhood. Sorry, I can’t share *all* of his passions. Like fishing. And maggots.
Confession is good for the soul, eh?

You too Cindy? Darn. I need a secretary. Or more sleep.
December 19th, 2003 18:55
Daisy, please don’t feel badly about LOTR. Since you have been brave enough to broach the subject, I will add that not only have I not seen any of the films, I have not read the books, and I have little interest in doing either. There, I have said it and now I feel all the better for it. Thank you for opening that door. Whew…feel so much better now.
December 20th, 2003 21:02
And I thought I was the only one who had no interest in LOTR. I’m not special then. Oh well :(

We ought to start a support group… ;-)
December 22nd, 2003 15:46
I think we could use a support group since I am convinced I am the only person who isn’t going to see this film. I am also a bit annoyed at all of those folk who insist that it’s the best film ever made. Sort of limits the bredth of films one can see doesn’t it? If I were to see it and agree with them I would be limited to viewing Tolkien films from here on in. As it is, I already have a deal worked out with the Bond people where I am forced to see every Bond film produced and anything written by Ian Flemming and I don’t want to enter another one of those bargains again. As it is, I find myslelf looking forward to that grocery list written by Ian that is being produced as a film next year.

Bond films? I think it’s time for me to *really* come out of the closet now and confess that:
(a) I’ve never seen a Bond film
(b) I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars trilogy
(c) I saw ET 10 years after release (but loved it)
(d) I’ve never seen any Star Trek films (but did watch the tv series as child. Then again, we only had 3 tv channels to choose from.)
(e) I saw LOTR and Shrek at around the same time and vastly preferred Shrek.
There you go. My name is Daisy and I’m a plebe.

No Bond or Star Trek films…well…wow…that sort of puts things in a new light. Pardon me, I need to move over to this side of the sofa now. I will be talking to the….(trails off)…

If you think *that’s* shocking, wait ’til you read “Books I’ve Never Read and Have No Intention of Doing So”…
