Mozilla Firefox update
I’ve just been reading Ben Goodger’s Why you should switch to Firefox. I’d add to that list the “autocomplete” feature in comment boxes. Despite hitting the “remember my details” option on some blogs, I still have to type ‘em in each time. The autocomplete works perfectly here and I can go back to being a lazy mare.
I’ve downloaded Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3 that includes the security fixes discovered just last week.
Wait for it, I’ve also downloaded and installed Mozilla Thunderbird to use in place of Outlook Express. More later.
I’m betting that I’m not the only person in the world to get a little antsy at being asked to supply incoming and outgoing mail server details [tip: go to the email software you're currently using and copy the details from there]. Since Mozilla products are so user friendly in all other respects and they’re hoping to attract the less techie user, it might be an idea to add help on this on the front page/download page or even as part of the install.
I’m not sure if it’s me, Gmail or Mozilla but I’ve found that I can’t have two tabbed windows open in Firefox with different login identities. For example, I can login as chasingdaisy [at] gmail [dot] com in one tab and myrealname [at] gmail [dot] com in another tab. After about five minutes, the second tab defaults to the second user sign-in. Very strange. Of course, I can have two windows open with different logins but not two tabs. Anyone else experienced this?
Update: this last point has been sorted, thanks to Kimberly who pointed out that:
Even though you’re tabbing, it’s still considered one browser session (same cookies for all tabs, etc.), so you won’t be able to log in as two different accounts. That’s why two windows works… it’s technically two browser sessions.

Re #1: Ah, that makes perfect sense. I’m sitting here hitting my forehead a la Bart Simpson. But with more hair. And boobies.
#2: I’m on my way! Thanks Kimberly.

Thunderbird is quite simply the only mail client. A few short weeks of following th company line with outlook was quicky violated.

Forgive me for being a blit slow but I don’t quite understand – do you use a Mac Daisy? If so, isn’t Safari and Mail quite enough?

No, I’m a pc user (client necessity) but one day I’m going to get me a second/third/fourth hand mac for playtime.

Ah ha. Now all is clear. Apple’s Safari has had tabbed browsing for a while and, whilst I’m not a Mac anorak (I am a bit but I’ve seen a lot worse!), Firefox seems very clunky and ungainly in comparison – though PC users seem to disgree on the whole. I think it’s because OSX is more svelte overall than XP…
…oh god I’m turning into a Mac nerd – stop me before it’s too late!
