A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

so yes, there’s still a lot to be fixed but I started off intending to do a Christmas theme with candles and snow and things. But I got sidetracked. The lovely banner image is from Pixel Perfect Digital and I think was created by Darren Hester but the site has recently been transformed and I can’t find it any more. Will dig some more to give proper credit. Tomorrow. Later this morning.

Afraid I’m super busy darlings, *air kiss*, just a few dinkety links before I dash off to another deadline:

text-image.com takes any of your pictures and converts it to ascii text.

How about trying taste critic – enter the name of a album, band, singer or song, it pulls that name from Amazon and gives it a mean (and I mean mean) review [via in4mador].

If you’re looking for inspiration to create some css menus try these, especially this one by Jeremie Patonnier. Tutorials included in French (but easily followed if you’re happy working with css).

PawSense is a software utility that helps protect your computer from cats and other critters by detecting then blocking the keystrokes. It also helps train your cat to stay off the computer keyboard with evil sounds like hissing and a loud harmonica. Poor cats.

But first an update on my-mother-in-law. We went up this weekend to find her in very good health and in fine spirits. There’s still a little confusion but 95% of her conversation is clear and lucid. And the strangest thing? Not one rude, racist or bitchy comment. I think she’s been replaced by an alien.

Much of the credit goes to the staff at the nursing home. We arrived as she was just tucking into lunch but because the home is split up into smaller wings of 10 or so residents, each wing has a lounge with kitchenette and a dining table so although the food is prepared en masse in the large kitchen, the residents of each wing are able to sit together and food is served from the kitchenette. Tea and coffee is made there and the staff join in so we sat in, drank tea and – I was gong to say that it’s almost like being in your own home but of course it’s not. Just the next best thing.

And so to the jokes…

A young redhead goes into the doctor’s office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.

Impossible,” says the doctor. “Show me.”

She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams. Everywhere she touches makes her scream.

The doctor says, “You’re not really a redhead, are you?”

No,” she says, “I’m actually a blonde.”

“I thought so,” the doctor says.

Nina Andersen’s site Eyes on Design has a great selection of PhotoShop tutorials. But while you’re there have a look at the wonderful gallery of photographs.

Autistic Cuckoo’s One way to design a website.

I haven’t checked this out yet but Synergy software seems to allow you to use two computers as one.

Too much time on your hands? Try the mouse trap race.

And just for laughs, Technology for country folk.
