Oh Nancy, I keep trying to write a review but have reviewers' block. Forest Whitaker and James Macavoy are superb. Really excellent performances. If Whitaker doesn't get the Oscar for this then there's something very wrong in Hollywood.

But... it's yet another white man's view of Africa. There's no sense of context, the only Ugandans we get to "know" are Amin and two other characters plus the bodyguard thugs. The lead female Ugandan character could definitely have been developed more fully rather than exist as a reason for something that happens at the end.

And I'd only read one review before going, wasn't prepared for the violence, especially toward the end.

Did I enjoy it? I was bowled over by Whitaker and Macavoy, it's worth seeing just for their performances but is it a good film? It's not perfect but it's 100 times better than the usual Hollywood drivel. Do go see it but be sure that Anthony is tucked up in bed.

Now that's interesting stroppy, according to the Urban Dictionary, it was "invented" in East & South London and might come from the French, se coucher. I have my doubts. The first entry though, sounds more likely:

Jamican slang term to prop something up or to rest or stay somewhere. The actual urban slang term comes from Jamaican patios and not French although that may be its original origin.

"Come we cotch here"

And the Jamaica phrase dictionary of Rasta/Patois says:

"COTCH: verb (cotch up), to support something else, as with a forked stick; to balance something or place it temporarily; to beg someone a cotch, can be a place on a crowded bus seat or bench; or it may mean to cotch a while, to stay somewhere temporarily."

I am wondering if that's where the local teens got the word from when about 4-5 years ago they would say "I was just cotching (no idea how they would have spelt it)" which they meant as "chilling out/ slouching/ relaxing".

Ya wanna see my over the shoulder boulder holder? Here you go. Oh wait, wrong one. Here it is, you nosey lot. And of course, those bosoms look just like mine...

Murphy, clever man! A cwtch in the cwtch sounds just the ticket. Although where I'm from (mining country), cwtch more usually refers to the place out the back where the coal is stored. Can't for the life of me remember what it's called in English. Kinda takes the romance out of it, no?

Jo, good question - cwtch is pronounced cooch, where the double o rhymes with look. Does that make sense?

Lovey, I need help pronouncing said cwtch properly. We Americans are not exposed to enough Welsh, and husband can help me with certain words, but....how about some phoenetics.
