60 words update

Blogliners logo, a small pale pink bird

Update: The Blogliners project has now closed and the website is no longer active but the posts (and the fun!) remain.

Remember that write a short story in 60 words or less challenge? I have to point you to the comment from R.J. Adams:

Reminds me of the teacher who, rather ambitiously, asked her elementary class to write a short story containing the elements: religion, aristocracy, sex, and mystery.

Little Georgy Pitman won with this brief composition:

“Good God,” said the Duchess, “I’m pregnant! Who done it?”

60 words

Today’s Blogliner:

Your task today is to write an original fictional tale using sixty words or less.

I came. I saw. I conquered.

Dammit, someone got there first didn’t they?

Happy St Dwynwen’s Day

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

A medieval portrait of St Dwynwen

25 January is St Dwynwen’s Day throughout Wales, patron saint of friends and lovers. Sort of like St Valentine’s day but better :-0)

I think Dwynwen would have been tickled pink at her name being used as an opportunity to wish virtual friends the happiest of days. January is nearly over and then we can start looking forward to Spring. At least in this hemisphere. Apologies to friends elsewhere in the world who have it all upside down…

p.s. It would have been nice to offer the receipe exchange today but it’s still in “advanced draft” form, sitting untouched and unloved on my hard disk since Saturday night because of horrible deadlines and the need to get 4 hours sleep a night. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to switch back to it tomorrow.

Favourite quotes

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005

Today’s Blogliner:

Each day we post of one of our favourite quotes for your enjoyment, but it occurs to us we could use some new material.

How about listing a dozen or so of your own favourites? Be sure to let us know you’ve posted yours (using trackback or just leave a comment) and we’ll share several as ‘quote of the day’ with a link back to your blog.

Time to dig out a few dog related quotes then. Oh and Dorothy Parker. And I can’t miss Rita Rudner. Okay, it’ll have to be more than a dozen. It’s a welsh dozen, ‘k?

“The difference between cats and dogs is, dogs come when they are called, cats take a message and get back to you.”
– Unknown

“I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult.”
– Rita Rudner

“Shin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.”
– Author Unknown

“Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself.”
– Rita Mae Brown

Today’s Blogliner is a challenge:

Let’s have your take on a few of the top news stories for today. Naturally, you know we’re not about to make it too easy – so let’s do them in haiku.

My first haiku
by Daisy, aged 41 7/8

Clad in Oscar, Herrera.
Emerald silk, pretty baubles
while the world turns its back.

Ah a nice silly one today:

Blog Babies: If your blog mated with another blog, what would the baby’s name be? For example, if Cup of Chicha married A Whole Lotta Nothing, the blogbaby might be “A Whole Cup of Nothing”. Can you think of others?

A simple yet unadorned Daisy
And then there was Daisy
Lazy Daisy
Squoogy fishbucket
Out of kiwifruit
Anything but broccoli and bechemal

How about you?

See that five pound note over there <== ? How about sending one or two of those over to Dragon's sponsorship page. All donations go to Macmillan Cancer Relief and he'll set off on his Tough Guy Challenge at 11 a.m. UK time in the knowledge that he’s running, jumping, aching and paining for a good cause and for an amount of money that will make a difference in people’s lives.

Blogging over the weekend and running out of ideas? Have a look at Blogliners – oodles of inspiration for the 24 hour blogger.

What happened next?

Think of a famous novel and give us a summary of its (imaginary) sequel.

Two by two

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

Today’s Blogliner:

Name two things in each category that no one’s life should be without:
songs, literature, movies, poems, snack foods, places, websites.

Is it bad that the first thing that came into my head was boobies?

Today’s Blogliner:

Although there are more books in print than any one person could read in several lifetimes, is there one book currently out of print that you would like to see published again? Tell us why.
