Wimmin wot I admires, Part 1 – Techies

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

This dropped into my inbox yesterday with some guff about a man’s favourite body piercing on a woman.

Woman with her mouth zipped shut.

Hmm. Is it sexist to focus solely on female bloggers? Greater minds than I have debated this elsewhere but here in “gender doesn’t matter it’s what you say and how you say it” daisyland, we celebrate bloggers who have great blogs regardless of race, gender and religion.

On then to Gia’s idea of celebrating International Women’s Day tomorrow (8 March 2006) by sharing our favourite bloggers with the rest of the world.

Like Neil, I’m going to spread them over several posts because frankly, there are so many damn fine women bloggers.

Part 1 – Techies and Geeks

Now then, once you’ve gone and admired any new-to-you blogs in that there list, you can either scoot off and add your own list of great female bloggers (tell us where in the comments please!) or simply add a comment with your recommendations. More later!

Blogpimping #10

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

I don’t know how I came across this definition of blogpimping but I’ve added a second, *cough* correct definition which is currently in the approval queue.

A day or so later I noticed that Blue Witch had edited the Wikipedia Internet Slang entry for FOTCR: Feast Of The Cash Register and was inspired to add both independently reached versions of the term blogpimping.

I’ve done a little research and I think the first mention of the word (with an alternative definition) was in the coffee achiever’s definitive blogsaurus:

Blogpimping (-v.) To utilize popular keywords or news stories in order to artificially elevate incoming traffic to your site.

Nope, sorry, that’s not what I mean by blogpimping. Here’s the entry I’ve created for blogpiming on the Wikipedia page:

blogpimping The act of introducing one blogger to another via hyperlinks or to introduce a new blog to a wider audience. First known usage: chasing daisy, January 2004.

blogpimping (2) “To utilize popular keywords or news stories in order to artificially elevate incoming traffic to your site.” This alternative definition was first mentioned in the coffee achiever’s definitive blogsaurus, June 2003.

Point n click guru Graeme over at lazylaces is holding a logo competition. If I had design/photoshop skills I’d be in there like a shot. But I shall miss those old boots.

Fi has posted on the new photo meme. Everything is so clean and tidy! No way am I putting pictures of this hovel up on the internets. Next!

Blogpimping #9

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

It’s been a while since I had the opportunity remembered to do some blogpimping but New Year’s Resolution #2 is to once again give it a regular slot on these ‘ere pages.

So what would a black, gay father in Maryland and a beautiful redhead from Florida have in common?

Talking of which, I’m off on a hot date with a distinguished looking bearded gentleman so excuse me while I go panic at the fact that I haven’t seen my makeup bag for over a year and have nothing to wear*.

* that’s the female version of “nothing to wear”.

Two for the price of one

Two new sites spotlighted this week: Liberrylog and Ode.A-Blog. You already know three of the contributors so get on over and have a gander.

And we’re well overdue a bit of blogpimping:

10 signs like this
The Colorblind Society
Nameless blogger [some content is NSFW]
Cripes, Suzette
Moody mum

Blogpimping part 8

Friday, January 21st, 2005

I came across a new blog a little while ago and was about to start a new blogpimping post with Elisabeth in mind when I realised that the first two victims blogs on the list link to each other already.

Does this mean:

a) I’m damn good at this pimping lark and should do it more often?
b) I’m really bad at this pimping lark if you all can find yourselves without me?
c) It’s gone 2 a.m. and I should be in bed trying to get some much needed sleep instead of sat here in front of the computer typing twaddle?

Answers on a postcard to the usual address please.

Maria, meet Kristy. Kristy, meet Maria.

Mary and Anan – meet Pennie* and Donna.

* Pennie’s just done a redesign so for the moment it looks a little bit wonky in Firefox, fine in Explorer.

Blogpimping part 5

Sunday, December 12th, 2004

It’s been a while, eh? Time to pair up a few bloggers that might not have come across each other otherwise.

But first, Stuart over at Autoblography has the result of the caption competition and invites you to partake of the next.

I scribbled a note that Huwge would like The Cartoonist while 10 signs like this would be of particular interest to Jo and Toni.

How about adding another librarian to the fold? Here’s re:becca. And I think you’ll like speckledy dog, a “thirty-noneofyourbusiness” new mother.

For the more geeky tech bent, Marco van Hylckama Vlieg’s The Net is Dead…. He uses Pivot to power his blog (new one on me) and has designed this gorgeous template.

That’s it, I’m beat. Hasta mañana mis amigos.

UPDATE: I missed one – e meet Alison, Alison meet e.

Blogpimping [part deux]

Thursday, April 8th, 2004

I added a new blog to the “Getting acquainted” list last night: Céline’s Naked Translations. I haven’t read all of the archives yet but I love this post on twitten.

So who would make a good blogger match with Céline? Well, all of you I reckon, but especially E, Gert, Huwge, Morgaine and Shelagh.
