Musical meme (but it’s great fun, honest!)

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

I swore I wouldn’t do another meme for a while but this one at Ally Bean‘s and Alison‘s is such good fun, I dare you to resist it. And it’s the weekend people!

Pick a band/artist. Then answer these questions using only titles from the band/artist’s songs.

  1. Name of band/artist: Stereophonics
  2. Are you male or female?: Girl
  3. Describe yourself: Handbags and Gladrags
  4. How do you feel about yourself?: More Life in a Tramps Vest
  5. Describe your ex girlfriend/boyfriend: Last of the Big time Drinkers
  6. Describe current girlfriend/boyfriend: Superman
  7. Describe where you want to be: Caravan Holiday
  8. Describe how you live: Too Many Sandwiches/Hurry Up And Wait
  9. Describe how you love: Check my Eyelids for Holes
  10. What would you ask for if you had just one wish?: A Thousand Trees
  11. Share a few words of wisdom: I Wouldn’t Believe Your Radio
  12. Now say goodbye: Have A Nice Day

WP-Audioscrobbler plugin for last.fm

Saturday, December 10th, 2005

Thanks to Marc Hodges’ plugin wp-audioscrobbler [via Em], you should be able to see the last 5 tracks I’ve been listening to at last.fm. Well not yet. I’ve a few tweaks yet. Carry on as you were. Ahem.

Apostrophes and Catastrophes

Sunday, December 4th, 2005

Apostrophes and Catastrophes is the title of singer songwriter Wolkenvelden (aka Paul Hunt)’s new cd:

Wolkenvelden (after the Dutch for “blanket of clouds”) is my nom de guerre as a singer-songwriter. The tunes on Apostrophes & Catastrophes range from quiet porch strums to punkish indie rock anthems, all with an introspective lyrical feel. The entire album is available on CD or as a free download. Featured tracks as well as demos of new songs regularly appear on the front page blog. All music is licensed as Creative Commons Sampling Plus.

I’ve only been able to listen to the album once (then got blackmailed into finally watching The Usual Suspects) but am definitely going back for some more.

Oh the lyrics are listed too. And donations are welcomed.

I’ve posted this before I know but I came across the lovely Wing again today and just had to share. She’s updated the site, made lots more downloads available – what more could a girl ask for?

Ladies and gentlemen: Wing.

Does anyone know

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

the music used in HP Photosmart adverts currently being shown on UK tv?

Solved – thanks to Elisabeth. It’s Picture Book by the Kinks. You can hear a snippet of the song at Amazon.com or have a look at the excellent Commercial Breaks and Beats.

MEME AID: The Bloggers’ Disco

Wednesday, March 9th, 2005

Mike over at Troubled Diva is calling for entries for the The Bloggers’ Disco playlist.

So many songs, so little time. Only one song per blog? Yegads.

After minutes of deliberation (if I starting making lists I’m doomed), I’m going to go for If I Can’t Have You – Yvonne Elliman from Saturday Night Fever.

Best of all, it’s all aid of Friday’s Red Nose Day. Go slap on some glitter, drag out the lycra, wobble in your wedges and go nominate a disco favourite.

Update: you can hear a snippet of the song here, along with other discoliciousness from the 70s. Now I wish I’d picked Donna Summer’s Hot Stuff or That’s the Way (I Like It) by KC & the Sunshine Band. I should have checked these disco compilations before naming the first song that came into my head. Dammit.

Late to the party

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

A while back Dosali posted her answers to this music meme and handed the baton over. And of course I went awol soon after but it’s a good ‘un so here we go.

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:
Not that many to be honest. I love finding new music (mostly via Huwge, Jo and Briggy) but the temptation to then buy the cd is overwhelming and threatens the no-spend policy. Course, now I have a bunch of Amazon vouchers burning a hole in my pocket so I’m checking the list of “Books and music I must have before I die”. My shopping basket “save for later” section is currently 220 pages long. Decisions, decisions!

Album of the year?

Thursday, February 10th, 2005

Eh, don’t I sound trendy? Watch out, I’ll be saying groovy and pants and watching the Brit Awards next.

Where was I? Oh yes, the cd I keep coming back to time and time again is Damian Rice, O.

What’s your favourite, favourite album?

Songs that are difficult to shift from your head once they enter, part 1

I see you baby… shaking that ass

Name that band

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

So – if Gia, Len, Jasmine, David and Richard* formed the first all blogging band – what should they call themselves?

*any other musicians amongst you?

Update: I jokingly told Martyn that I was going to post an audio of me singing. He visibly paled and begged me not to. That’s how bad my voice is.
