A word from our sponsors

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

We interrupt our scheduled programme to bring you news that until midnight tonight (that’s about 5 hours from the time of this post) you can buy Em’s pictures from PhotoBox at the unbelievably low price of £1 for 10 (plus £1.50 for postage and packing within the UK).

That concludes this message from our sponsor.

Update: That offer only applies when purchasing your own pictures, we can’t all go buy his pictures for £1. Insert rolling eyes icon here.

26 Things December 2004

Tuesday, November 30th, 2004

Sh1ft’s 26 Things is back up for December.

I think Croila’s already started with a lovely post/pictures for the Generosity category.

Once upon a time in a farm near Limerick…

…I took some photos of Sherman the horse.

One kind photographer / writer + one competition + one much cherished prize = happy birthday to a soon to be two year old granddaughter.

Thank you Andre.

A beautiful revolution

Sunday, November 7th, 2004

I love seeing new blogs in the referral stats (go on, you do too) but it’s especially nice when it’s someone whose blog you’ve visited before and enjoyed, meant to blogroll but for one reason or another (*cough* incompetence *cough*) have not recorded so you don’t go back gain.

Andre’s a beautiful revolution falls in that category. Apart from the writing, don’t miss the wonderful photography.

If you needed any further incentive to go visit, Andre has just launched the snap idol competition – if you’ve taken a picture that makes you laugh/smile, send it in by 21 November. Go on, we could all do with cheering up at the moment.

is the best way to describe my stash of links so without further ado:

Abba Richman’s alphabet photography; a colour version is here.

[*ahem* LINK NOW WORKS] A video for Michael Andrews and Gary Jules’ Mad World – schoolchildren create montages of moving figures [caution: not for those who suffer from vertigo] [via Milk and Cookies].

Sallie’s list of things you don’t want to hear at a tattoo parlour.

The official God FAQ [via Adrian].

I’ve been looking at great css layouts recently and came across this rollover effect on Macrabbit’s CSSEdit for Macs. *Swoon*.

How to be a programmer.

And finally: cute dogs of the week award goes to this pair Tiny red heart

Can’t think of a title

Go to misprinted type and mutter envious things under your breath. Oh and I’ve just added moorstation’s typOasis to blogging tools – a huge resource of free, donationware and shareware fonts, including Shy Fonts by Derek Vogelpohl.

Some lovely animated gifs at b3a [via bleu blanc blog, unusually NSFW today] and Erik Refner photography [via coolios].

How to create a water effect in photoshop and using transparency in images.

No more posts for the rest of the afternoon, I’m taking this lunch hour to come visit you lot, something I haven’t had the chance to do for days now and withdrawal symptoms are kicking in.

Sand castles

Monday, July 19th, 2004

Just received from non blogging Jane – the best sand castles in the world. Probably.

Six young women lying on a beach in bikinis, one of them is made entirely from sand.

Trick effect in the sand - it appears at first as if one man is buried in the sand with his head under his arm but it's really two men.

Woman's body made out of sand.

Two cleverly made figures, one woman, one skeleton, made out of sand.

Man's head sitting on top of large body made from sand.

Sculpture of hand squashing man's face into sand.

There are six more pictures in this set, which are a little bit rude (but not that rude), email me if you’d like to receive them. Under the counter. In a brown paper bag. Heh.

26 Things

Sunday, July 11th, 2004

Forgot to mention that I’ve started the 26 Things project.

Now I’m really going to switch off this damn computer. Hope you’re all enjoying your weekends.

26 Things 2004

has just launched and there’s a great list of topics to photograph. I just had a quick look at the forum – there’s quite a debate on the ethics of using Adobe® PhotoShop®* and other tools for image manipulation.

* I’ve just read this.
